Mildew is a type of fungus that can be found growing on a multitude of surfaces where moisture levels are high. Our professional house cleaners will be able to impede the growth of mildew by removing the built up sources that it lives on, such as soap, skin, hair and etc. As long as humidity is present, mildew will grow in the area. To stop the growth of mildew, the area must be kept dry and or chemically treated.
Mold and mildew can sneak up on you, but recognizing and treating them early can save you a lot of hassle. Here’s how to spot them and clean effectively without using bleach.
Recognizing Mold and Mildew:
- Mildew: Usually appears by its color ranging from a pinkish-orange to black. Most mildews are caused by an overgrowth of its close cousin, mold.

Treating Mold and Mildew:
- Vinegar Solution: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the affected area, let it sit for an hour, then scrub with a brush and rinse.
- Hydrogen Peroxide: Apply 3% hydrogen peroxide directly to mold, let it sit for 10 minutes, then scrub and wipe clean.
- Baking Soda: Mix 1/4 tablespoon of baking soda with water in a spray bottle. Spray the area, scrub with a brush, and rinse. Spray again and let it dry to prevent future growth.
- Tea Tree Oil: Combine a teaspoon of tea tree oil with a cup of water in a spray bottle. Spray the moldy area, let it sit, then wipe away without rinsing.
